In June, seven Americans participated in a week-long Study Trip in Poland, an initiative sponsored by the Forum for Dialogue Among Nations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. Some of the highlights of this trip included taking part of the Jewish Culture Day in the town of Chmielnik. The group spent a few days in Warsaw, attending meetings with political and intellectual leaders in Poland, as well as leaders in the Jewish Community in Poland today, and visited important sights such as the Jewish Cemetery and the Warsaw Rising Museum. After that, the group went to Krakow, where they took day trips to Chmielnik and Auschwitz. One participant, Michael Epstein, a trustee of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum wrote how the trip "achieved its objective-I am departing Poland with the awareness that a new era of Polish-Jewish friendship is possible and desirable". |
